Kosovo: the name conjures up blood: ethnic cleansing and war. This book reveals another side to the newest country in the world--a land of generous families, strong tastes and lush landscapes: a land of honey. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

This review is from: Travels in Blood and Honey (Paperback)
An enjoyable read, following the author's two years in Kosovo, where her husband was adviser to the prime minister, just prior to independence.
In the early days, the language makes life a challenge, but soon she is making friends and doing charity work. Plus she begins a new hobby after she receives a beehive as a birthday gift...As she becomes familiar with Kosovan society, she writes on many different aspects of it - from the place of women to bloodfeuds. And includes numerous recipes and b/w photos.
Books on recently war-torn parts of the world can sometimes be heavy-going and full of politics; this book doesn't shy away from describing these events in the course of conversations with her acquaintances, but they don't overshadow the country, the people and the bees. ( )
