Fantasy. Romance. Young Adult Fiction. HTML:

In Allison Sekemoto's world, there is one rule left: Blood calls to blood

She has done the unthinkable: died so that she might continue to live. Cast out of Eden and separated from the boy she dared to love, Allie will follow the call of blood to save her creator, Kanin, from the psychotic vampire Sarren. But when the trail leads to Allie's birthplace in New Covington, what Allie finds there will change the world forever--and possibly end human and vampire existence.

There's a new plague on the rise, a strain of the Red Lung virus that wiped out most of humanity generations ago--and this strain is deadly to humans and vampires alike. The only hope for a cure lies in the secrets Kanin carries, if Allie can get to him in time.

Allison thought that immortality was forever. But now, with eternity itself hanging in the balance, the lines between human and monster will blur even further, and Allie must face another choice she could never have imagined having to make.

Loved this! Can't believe I haven't read this series sooner. Can't wait to get to the last book! ( )

The first book made it clear that vampires don't have to kill to feed. Uncontrollable killing only happens if the vampire is starved for weeks.
The insecurities of our heroine are based on her feeling like she is just as bad as her psychotic vampire kin which is just ridiculous.
If that wasn't bad enough her decisions are incredibly unbelievable. Who the hell decides to help the guy who murdered her friends and who she knows will backstab her as soon as he doesn't need her without any guarantee she will get anything out of the deal at all?
Not only that but she starts to taunt him and to banter with him while going on a wild goose chase after some fantastic hidden lab.
The entire setup is utter bullshit.
These major weaknesses weren't as apparent in the first book because there never were many decisions to be made as most of the story is completely driven by necessities for survival.
There are many other things wrong as well that I was willing to overlook in the first book because it wasn't entirely clear if those apparent contradictions are only due to the reader having an incomplete picture but this book confirms that this is not the case. ( )

Hard to rate this one. The story was great, characters even better. If only it wasn't so dark...I knew this was a dark series, but book two had much more blood and gore than book 1. Still, I read it in one day because I couldn't put it down.

I'm definitely going to read the next one, but only after I take a break and read soemthing light.

Julie Kagawa, you're amazing! ( )

wow! Another interesting book from Julie. Its more realistic and better than the first. A vamp and a human? Who would ever think it would work? But Allie and Zeke were able to do the impossible. Am giving it 4.8 stars because it's short. I'm looking forward to the next book on the series. ( )
