So this is "2 stars, but..."
The first third of this was really fun, silly but very entertaining, then it got into all of the mythological back story stuff and completely lost me. I ended up rushing through it to get it finished, but there was enough fun stuff in here to make me think the other books in the series might be worth a read. ( )

This has a lot of interesting stuff going on. He's like this chick magnet awesome guy with powers, and there are bad guys. I liked it, but it got to be too many elements added in for me. It went from present to way in the past with knights and stuff. It also brings in figures from history during that time. And then some gods and stuff. So, yes, I liked it, the writing craft is really good, but the storyline had too much for this first book, I think. I'm interested enough that I plan to check out the next book at some point. Fans of super hero movies and comics will probably like it. ( )

Interesting main character. Fun to see him slowly realize who/what he is. ( )

Okay, I'll bite. I've had this series in my Kindle for awhile but at 7 books I wasn't sure when or how I'd invest the time, until I took a vacation. But since life has been tiring it seemed like it was time to throw in a long series into the mix to read. Urban/paranormal-ish fantasy isn't my thing exactly but I was willing to give this one, set in the past and present, a go.

Nate is a sorcerer mixed up in shenanigans involving magical beings, werewolves and vampires, Greek/Roman mythology, Arthurian legends and more. He's a James Bond/Jason Bourne Gary Stu who has his way with the ladies (who are also more than willing) and in between he fights bad guys and wins (usually).

Overall, it's a bit of a mixed bag. I did strongly consider DNFing for several chapters but I think I'll continue for now. I'm intrigued to learn more how the author ties these various legends and myths together (if he does, I hope), with where a story like this is going. And the cover was cool-looking too.

But as the negative reviews (and my previous commentary) note: at times it can be a little rough. He flips back and forth between the past in France and present day UK (which was fine, sometimes this is a device I hate but I actually found the past interesting). I was kinda bored with the constant fight scenes and how he seemed to be a total chick magnet all the time. There are times when the writing isn't great.

But it's included in my Kindle membership and it's a series I think is worth reading straight through but also doesn't require that much emotional/intellectual investment. Would probably recommend others borrow vs. buying (especially at 7 books) but if you're a fan this might be worth a pickup, in either physical or e-book form for a vacation or recovery period or similar situation where you need a distraction but too much of one. If you're a fan of books like Anita Blake; Vampire Hunter, and The Dresden Files, you'll enjoy this book.

The book follows two stories; the life of a sorcerer as he follows the butchers of a town in the 1400s, and the life of the same sorcerer as he tries to save a young woman in modern day London.

It's an action packed thrill ride from start to finish.

I only rated the book 3 stars, because there are some things that can be improved on.

First, every woman in the story over 18 years of age is a bombshell. Humans aren't like that in real life; they shouldn't be in a book.

Secondly, every woman is attracted to the main character. Again; not something that's going to happen in real life. No one is that attractive.

Other than that, a fun read. ( )
