A great king faces the ultimate challenge: a dangerous quest through realms of magic and the undead toward a confrontation with his destiny Drought, plague, and war have left the Isle of the Mighty battered and its heart, the beloved Arthur, grievously injured--until a secret relic is brought before the dying King; a Holy Grail that heals his wounds and restores his vigor. But soon evil enters the royal court in the guise of a beautiful maiden; a soulless, malevolent force capable of seducing the King's loyal champion, confounding the sage whom some call Merlin, and carrying the sacred Grail--and Arthur's adored Queen--off into the dark unknown. GRAIL "Suspenseful . . . soulful, philosophical . . . engagingly drawn . . . Arthurian Britain is invoked with robust verisimilitude." -Publishers Weekly… (más)

In ways hard to describe, this book was undeniably an act of worship. ( )

Stephan Lawhead all but ignores the Grail legend in his first three books of the Pendragon Cycle, and limits its presence in Pendragon. It would seem that he set it aside for this faithful telling from the perspective of one of Arthur's Guardians of the Grail.
Consistent with the other books, Lawhead finds new voices to tell this tale using Gwalchavad as the principle storyteller and Morgain as an occasional foil to him. Many fans of the first three books will not care for this one. It is steeped in religious context that the other books only alluded to. This is actually part of Lawhead's gift. If the reader takes the time to understand the perspective of the storyteller, he will understand Lawhead's need to cloak it in religious mysticism.
This book is an excellent re-telling of Grail legend, and a wonderful use of the characters that Lawhead has given life to in his Pendragon cycle. It seems a shame that this saga should ever come to an end. ( )

The last book in the Pendragon cycle. It is told through the eyes of Galahad and details the story of the Grail and the battle with Morgan. I found it very confusing as to how it relates to ther other books in the series. It just didn't really make sense ina few places. In Arthur (book three) Morgan is brought before him and dies, she demands she has done no crimes. However in this book she has clearly committed crimes against all of them!

It mostly focused on god versus the devil which I wasn't so sure about as a theme. It would have been good to know more about Morgan and her motives as she is a great character. Sadly not a great finish to the series. ( )
