Fans of vampires, demons, ghosts and werewolves crave Kelley Armstrong's seductive tales of supernatural mischief. In the same vein as her New York Times bestselling series Women of the Otherworld, "Zen and the Art of Vampirism" features a mythical female protagonist in a real-life setting. After a tumultuous path of violence and murder, easygoing vampire Zoe Takano resolves never to kill another human. But her peaceful existence as a thief-for-hire in Toronto may be nearing its end following the arrival of two other vampires-aggressive beings with insatiable bloodlust. Zoe is the only vampire in Toronto, Canada. Two other vampires have come up from New Orleans to take over Zoe's territory. As we learn from Zoe's backstory, there is a compelling reason why she doesn't want to fight Jose and Brigid (?). There's also a good reason for Zoe to let them have her territory, which comes with a price. Are the challengers willing to pay that price?
I enjoyed the story, Zoe as a character, and Ms. Hallett's narration. ( )
