In terms of the biography, this is well written. Not too wordy with appropriate pictures. The pictures themselves bring the reader into the text, allowing one another to connect. It is a great book to bring into the classroom when discussing civil rights, the Brown vs Board of Education case, that time in history all together. ( )

This book is a biography of the life of Thurgood Marshall. It discusses how he became the first African American that served as a judge on the United States Supreme Court. I think the big idea of this book is success and determination. I liked this book for two particular reasons. The first reason I liked this book was because it included illustrations so that the reader could connect to the story. For example, when Marshall went away to college, it showed his parents leaving his school and they looked quite sad, as most parents do when they send their child away for college-which is how I was able to relate to this illustration, and this part of the story.
The second reason I liked this book was because of Marshall's level of determination. He fought in the case of Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka for equal schools. He said "Equal means getting the same thing, at the same time, and in the same place." The Supreme Court did agree with him, and in return granted the end of school segregation. Marshall was determined to make a change in the world, and to become a lawyer. ( )

This book sheds a visual insight of Civil rights leader Thurgood Marshall and his life long career of fighting for the equality of african americans.

This picture book is a biography on Thurgood Marshall. This book tells about his life and what he believed in. He tells about his fight dealing with segregation. This would be a great book to read in history and to talk about segregation. ( )

This is a picture book about Thurgood Marshall. The book shows pictures of the life of Thurgood Marshall and his great contirbutions. Robert Casilla does a great job of illustrating his life and I enjoyed reading through his beautiful illustrations.
If you liked this picture book of Thurgood Marshall you will love some of Robert Casilla's other creation. Check out his website! http://www.robertcasilla.com/ ( )
