Young Adult Fiction. HTML:

There's an island off the coast of Maine that's not on any modern map. Shrouded in mist and protected by a deadly reef, Trespass Island is home to a community of people who guard the island and its secrets from outsiders. Seventeen-year-old Delia grew up in Kansas, but has come here in search of her family and answers to her questions: Why didn't her mother ever talk about Trespass Island? Why did she fear the open water? But Delia's not welcome and soon finds herself enmeshed in a frightening and supernatural world where ancient Greek symbols adorn the buildings and secret ceremonies take place on the beach at night. Sean Gunn, a handsome young lobsterman, befriends Delia and seems willing to risk his life to protect her. But it's Jax, the coldly elusive young man she meets at the water's edge, who finally makes Delia understand the real dangers of life on the island. Delia is going to have to fight to survive. Because there are monsters here. And no one ever leaves Trespass alive.

Love the location, Maine! Having taken the boat many time from the Casco Bay Boat lines out to Peaks I could not resist reading this book
I actually enjoyed the storyline reminds me of the Percy Jackson theme. You have to let yourself go and believe. The main character Delia McGovern was feisty and likable. Fun fairy tale ( )

Imagine being forced to live on an island full of secrets and mythical sea creatures.
For seventeen-year-old Delia McGovern, this becomes a reality in Maurissa Guibord’s young adult novel, Revel. After her mother dies of breast cancer, Delia sets out for Trespass Island to find her grandmother and to get answers about her mother’s mysterious past. Why did her mother keep this place so secret from her? And why did she run away from it when she was pregnant with Delia? Once Delia arrives, however, she finds herself on a dangerous island where mythical sea creatures rule and an overly protective and slightly judgmental community lives.
After learning that she is trapped on the island, Delia struggles to gain the trust of the islanders while also keeping the peace with the First Ones, the demigods that control everything about the island. Though things become easier when she befriends a popular local guy, Sean Gunn, Delia still finds herself walking on a thin line between doing what she wants to do and doing what the islanders tell her to do. And it doesn’t help when one of the handsome and rebellious demigods, Jax, catches her attention, too.
The longer she stays on the island, Delia realizes that she is being drawn to the water, something that she has always avoided. What is it about this island that entrances Delia so much? As the town prepares for Revel, a traditional town event held every year on the summer solstice, Delia quickly begins to discover many of the island’s secrets—and her own.
Revel has pretty much everything one would want in a young adult novel—love, action, adventure, mystery, and suspense—all tied into a mythical and intriguing storyline. Guibord’s writing style is eloquent and imaginative. Delia’s character is easily likeable and extremely real, something that readers will appreciate from the start. Furthermore, readers will find themselves addicted to the mysterious, and sometimes violent, elements of the story.
Despite this, there were aspects about the book that kept it from receiving a five star review. For instance, it would have been nice to see some more development with the relationship between Sean and Delia. Secondly, it seemed like the final chapter was a bit rushed, as if Guibord’s deadline was approaching and she hurried to finish the story. Readers will be left wondering what will become of the characters and the island, and unfortunately, the book does not fully answer them. Even so, Revel is an exciting read that would probably be enjoyed most on a summer afternoon at the beach. ( )
