His father decided to buy a store for him and his bother. The store closed after one short year. He spends a lot of time at the courthouse listening to people talk about the laws. He then decided he wants to become a lawyer. Patrick Henery was very passionate about the taxes placed on the American people by the British. He spent five terms as governor of Virginia trying to change the laws. His famous words "Give me liberty or give me death." He was still remembered for his works long after his death. ( ) Patrick Henry was born in Virginia, at a time when Virginia was one of the thirteen colonies under England’s rule. He heard the Reverend Samuel Davies speak at the age of eleven, and he was inspired to become a great speaker like the Reverend. Patrick Henry became a lawyer and fought for the rights of the people to create laws that could not be vetoed by the King of England. He was elected to the First Continental Congress in 1774, and Patrick Henry inspired the colonists to work together as one unified nation to defeat England’s rule. After the colonies won the American Revolution, Patrick Henry was governor of Virginia. One of our nation’s Founding Fathers, Patrick Henry helped pass the Bill of Rights to protect the rights of the American people. I knew that Patrick Henry was a Founding Father, but I did not know much else about him. I thought it was very interesting that he became a lawyer and used his profession to fight the laws that were unfair to the colonists. I liked this biography of Patrick Henry. When kids read this, it shows how things are different and the same in so many ways. It tells us how Patrick Henry never gave up no matter how many failures he had. He keep going til he became successful in something. Kids should always read about that in books to show them that you keep trying until you get it. This picture book about Patrick Henry discusses how he came from a modest background and failed several times, but he became an important and influential figure in American history and is a founding father. The theme of the book is one person can make a difference in the course of history. Patrick Henry not only spoke out against the King of England in his first court case, bot he also warned against the Constitution not giving enough rights to the people. Therefore, the Bill of Rights was established to give more rights to the people. This book would fit well into a lesson about the American Revolution. I appreciate the author's note at the end of the book about Patrick Henry speaking out against slavery while he owned more than sixty. I think it is important for readers to understand that people are not perfect. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
