Evangelical writer Elisabeth Elliot sees the miracle of God's grace at work in her life. In this book, she shares her own perceptions on the meanings of the events in her turbulent life. The themes of this collection touch on her life experiences. The overarching Christian values are the difficulties of responsibility and discipline and the redeeming grace of God, which, in spite of trouble, gives us our life, calls us to labor, and grants us our salvation.

This is sort of a collection of thoughts. There is no big theme to it, simply chapters on the author's thoughts about what was happening in the world at that time (70s). Some chapters are uplifting, some allow the reader to come alongside the author in laughter or anger or frustration. Elisabeth Elliot, who has seemed to be more than human in my eyes at times, is very approachable here. She doesn't set herself up in an unobtainable halo, but rather is like a friend whose company I would enjoy. ( )
