Very touching and wonderful story about a rescued pony, who was left alone in hurricane Katrina and was later rescued by a group of awesome people. Not only that, but even after losing her limb she kept going strong. This book made me realize something very important, not just humans can give hope and cheer, but so do animals. This will be a great read for young students during ELA class. ( )

Molly the Pony tells the tale of a pony who survived after being abandoned during Hurricane Katrina. At her new home, a dog bites her leg and it needs to be amputated. They fit her with a prosthetic leg and she soon becomes a therapy pony, visiting children's hospitals and nursing homes. The story is heartwarming, but the design of the book is lacking. It would be a good book to read in addition to other books discussing disabilities, as it has local interest and is non-fiction. I would not use it as a stand-alone read-aloud. ( )

I enjoyed reading Molly the Pony. I liked that is used actually pictures and images of the pony versus a cartoon and animated pictures. It was also based out of Louisiana and referenced Hurricane Katrina which I found rather neat and relatable to some of my students. I also like how Molly became a service animal would go and visit the children at Children's Hospital after her accident and had to get prosthetic leg which made her relatable to some of the patients. Molly surely is an amazing pony. She is a strong survivor of a terrible storm and a dog attack that left her severely injured. This book is a great device to show children that anyone can receive a prosthetic and benefit from them greatly. It shows that even with something that would make ones life seem over, all you need is a little smile and a lot of courage to overcome it. ( )

I was surprised when I read this. I thought this was going to be an informational book about a pony who only had one leg but it was so much more than that. The story begins with how it all happened. It discusses the pony being abandoned and how it got a new family and then how it's foot had to be amputated after an infection from a dog bite. The horse receives a prosthetic leg and has a smiley face on the bottom of it so whenever she walks a smile is left in the ground. This horse is inspiring. The owner allowed other children who were sick or had special needs to play with the horse. I think this book is sweet and can inspire people. ( )
