A heartfelt and extraordinary recounting of a lady who died and came back to life and what she experienced and her reflection on God and angels and well...just all that. ( ) A very interesting true story of the witnessed near death experience of Orthopedic Surgeon, Mary C Neal. I commend the author for the courage it must have taken to share her experience publicly - after all, she is a physician and well versed on the clinical process and timeline of death. I did not find it to be overly spiritual - she presented her core beliefs as what I would call common. She was not steeped with deep thoughts and considerations of the spiritual such as heaven, angels, and what happens human life after death until her own accident and experience with physiological death. I have absolutely no doubt about the facts presented in this book as her accident was witnessed and timed by another person outside of the experience. I appreciate her transparency in sharing this experience and how it compelled her to re-consider her core philosophies about physical life and death, and the deepest questions of human existence. Like the author, I am a healthcare clinician. Her experience and reflections gave me much to ponder. Review of the hardcover edition from Guideposts.org “To Heaven and Back” chronicles, from a Christian perspective, the Near Death Experience of a noted orthopedic surgeon. Told in simple, straightforward language, the unfolding story of her accident, her incredible experience, and her return to her earthly body is both compelling and thought-provoking. Readers will find that the author primarily offers a message of comfort, of hope, of faith. Sincere and insightful, “To Heaven and Back” gives readers much to consider. The hardcover edition, from Guideposts, includes bonus material on near death experiences: separate interviews with Dr. Raymond Moody and Reverend Peter Panagore and two previously-published articles from Guideposts Magazine.
