I also have to admit I had actually mixed up this author with Edgar A. Guest. When I picked up this book, I was thinking of Guest's "Home" and expecting more poems like that. (I have a collection of best-loved poems that contains works by both authors and got them mixed up in my mind; both do use dialect but Guest's poem is more solemn.)
I think this volume might be entertaining for a hard-core old-time poetry fan - it certainly has an aura of long-ago times. But it did not really entertain me. ( )
