This is book is an informational book with pictures that contains the biographies of forty-five famous people. The main point of this book is to introduce children to important people and to make children realize that there are many types of important people in the world. I really enjoyed this book. One thing that I really liked was the introduction from the author and the illustrator. In the introduction, they explain that they want their biographies to show children that many types of people from many types of backgrounds can become successful and can grow up to be powerful people. They also explain that since the biographies are just brief introductions, that students should go to their local libraries to find out more about people in whom they are interested. A second thing that I really liked about this book was the layout. Each person has two pages. One page is an illustration and the other page is information about the person. At the top of the information page is the person’s name as well as his birth and death dates. Underneath there is a subheading that gives the most important fact about him or her. For example, the page about Winston Churchill says “Winston Churchill (1874-1965)” : He helped save England from Hitler’s Nazis.” I really like this layout because it makes it very easy to determine about whom one wants to read. For example, when I was reading I stopped at Winston Churchill because I wanted to find out how he saved England from the Nazis. ( )

This is a nice collection of short, 1 page biographies suitable for children to be introduced to historical figures.

Well-known figures including Walt Disney, Ben Franklin, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Abraham Lincoln.

Lesser-known figures include: Gabriel Mistral, Maria Tallchief, Duke Ellington, Katsushika Hokusai, and Rachel Carson to name a few.

I suggest basing the coverage on children's interests to begin with and gradually introducing other lesser known historical figures.

Good for children age 7-10.
