Still a little glossy on some elements that I would normally find more serious, but that really is a stylistic choice from the author. She doesn't key it get in the way of her story. ( ) This series started very promising but after a while, the heroin's obsession with clearing her name becomes tiresome, though. As is the pattern: Amaranthe (or sometimes Books) imagines a crazy scheme, the team follows, everything around them explodes but they come out alive. However there is enough action and plot development to keep me interested in reading the rest. It loks like book five will break the pattern a bit and I'm looking forward to it. It's pretty weird when the Emperor asks you to kidnap him. But when you're trying to gain his favor and his pardon, you do exactly what you're asked. Of course, kidnapping an emperor is not the kind of thing good and loyal servants of the empire do so this is bound to cause more trouble than anything before, even if they do have Sespian on their side. I haven't yet sent in a review for the first three books in this series, however this one, book 4 is by far the best yet. Where as I could put the others down, even if I was enjoying them, this one I find myself looking for a free 5 minutes just to read another few paragraphs. The first book is free for Kindle, it's good, really for free you can't lose. Once you read that one, you find yourself enjoying the characters if not the entire story. Once you get to this book, you just (or I just) want to visit this group of "friends" as often as possible. I dare say that the author has grown throughout this series and with this particular one, is outstanding. Conspiracy is yet another outstanding installment in the Emperor’s Edge series. The plot is fast paced, action packed, and full of twists. I especially enjoyed the awesome, heart-pounding battle on the moving train and the introduction of Sergeant Yara as a main supporting character. Also, we finally get to see Sespian and Sicarius in the same room together, which is a fascinating combination of heartbreaking and hilarious. This time the secondary POV character is Akstyr, and although his arc isn’t as compelling as Basilard’s, it’s still interesting to see the other members of the team from his perspective. The story ends on a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I can only hope that the series continues to be this excellent. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
