Bring on the popcorn! Marja McGraw’s second in the Bogey man series, Bogey’s Ace in the Hole is as much fun as the Saturday matinees you watched as a kid. .Although set in the present, McGraw uses the forties nightclub owned by her Bogey look-alike and his wife to create the perfect setting for a mystery of that era—speeding cars, coppers, flowing satin gowns, romance, intrigue and elegance. Bring on a great supporting cast of characters including the Bogey family son, their two golden retrievers and the church ladies and everyone is up to their shoulder pads in kidnapping and murder. McGraw does it again—murder most charming.

In Bogey’s Ace in the Hole, Marja McGraw brings back her Humphrey Bogart lookalike to find a senior citizen from his wife’s church who has disappeared. As Bogey tries to follow the clues he trips over her nosy friends on their knees praying for his success.
This cozy mystery has a little bit of everything with two rambunctious dogs, a precocious child and a hint of romance all warring and working together to save an innocent from a killer. The lookalike movie star wants only to run a successful restaurant but gets roped in by his wife and then can’t stop until the criminal is apprehended or his loved ones will get caught in the crossfire.
The case isn’t all lights and glamour but dogged police work and a little divine intervention. Marja McGraw’s latest Bogey Man Mystery is the perfect read for long winter nights filled with great characters and a surprise ending worthy of the red carpet treatment.

The amateur detective husband and wife team, Chris and Pamela Cross, return in this lively sequel to Marja McGraw’s Bogey Nights. They are joined by their seven-year-old son, Mikey, and the family Labrador retrievers, Sherlock and Watson. Mikey is tired of being left out of his parents’ fun and determined to make his own contribution to rid the world of crime. It appears that the dogs feel the same way.
The trouble begins quietly when Lila, Jasmine, and May, three genteel senior citizens who call themselves the Church Ladies, appear in the bar of the Cross restaurant, Bogey Nights, asking for Chris. They are anxious to enlist his aid in finding their friend, Addie, who has disappeared.
Chris, that lovable dead ringer for iconic movie star, Humphrey Bogart, is leery of Church Ladies. But before you can say “Bogey Nights”, Chris is involved in their dilemma, along with Pamela and Mikey. Not to mention the Labs,
The dilemma quickly becomes a crime-in-the-making. Did Addie go willingly with the menacing man in the truck or is she a kidnap victim? Is Victor really in danger of being gunned down by a hit man? And if so, why isn’t he more worried? Which characters are hiding their true motives and why does Chris refer to the Church Ladies as Bogie’s Nightmare?
Addie reappears with a fantastic story, and the hit man surfaces. Then with a murder, a sinister black truck and white camper, a mall cop who may be crooked, and a little old lady with a secret, Chris’ and Pamela’s mystery turns deadly.
Marja McGraw has created an engrossing new mystery that sparkles with humor, authentic period slang, and warm family feeling. Mikey is the son every parent would like to have. The romance of Chris and Pamela is heartwarming. The cast of elderly characters will amuse you and ultimately win your hearts, and the Labs come into their own. The cleverly depicted forties-themed restaurant, Bogie Nights, emerges as a place you’d love to visit, truly a Five Star restaurant.
I’ll give five stars to Bogey’s Ace in the Hole and be waiting for more adventures of Chris and Pamela Cross and their entourage.
