I like Robin Caroll's writing and her character development. The mysteries are well-written and keep me entertained. ( ) We meet up with Riley Baxter as she is about to attend the parole hearing of Simon Lancaster...the man who driving drunk killer her Mom and Dad. She is so upset....and really hasn't forgiven. A chance encounter on the way out of the prison put Riley on a new course in her life. She meets the family of Armand Wilson...they had gone to the prison to see him, and were denied a visit, because of some food found in Armand's locker. Hayden Simpson is the police commissioner, and the brother of Remington. Remington is now in a relationship with Riley's brother Rafe. Most everyone is staying at Hayden's Mom's Ardy...the woman who's cooking skills lures them all! Your about to start a great adventure, and most of what happens seems to be interwoven...even to Emily, another sister of Hayden's. Be ready to want to scream at the injustices that happen, and some of the heartwarming things. Love that these people have a great relationship with the Lord! I received this book through First Wild Card Tours, and the publisher B&H, and was not required to give a positive review. Riley Baxter’s parents were killed several years by Simon Lancaster as a result of his driving while drunk. He was sent to Louisiana’s Angola prison and is now up for parole. He claims he is a changed man. He has found God but Riley has doubts. She thinks he is still a danger to society and voices her opinion at the parole hearing. While she is there she meets a family of a man who is serving a prison sentence for a robbery and murder. His family feels that he is innocent. The daughter touches Riley’s heart so she decided to write a series of articles. She feels this is the story that will jump start her career as a news reporter. Her boss says she needs to write one good story to keep her job. She aspires to be the next Diane Sawyer. As she gets to know the family more she believes in this man’s innocence but someone but someone wants her dead. She had had a couple of attempts on her life. While in Louisiana she stays with Hayden Simpson's mother, Ardy. We were introduced to the Simpsons in the first book. Hayden, the local police commissioner tries to help her but he has problems of his own with a rebellious sister and a string of unsolved murders. Are these murders connected to the innocent man in jail? You will have to read the story to see how it all comes together. I enjoyed the novel but it did not get really suspenseful until I was about 100 pages into the novel. I was totally taken by surprise as to who was the man who made attempts on Riley's life and the man responsible for the murders. Looking back I think there may have been some clues that I overlooked. I am looking forward to the next book that comes out in 2013 that will focus on the oldest Baxter sibling, Maddie. I received this book compliments of B&H Publishing and Netgalley. I was not compensated for this book. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. This book is due to be released on September 15, 2012. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
