This story is about a little girl who loves shoes. She loves all kinds of shoes, except the kind with shoe strings. She cannot tie them so she does not like them. Her mother buys them anyway and shows her step by step how to tie them. The little girl goes to her room and tries and tries until she gets it right.
Personal Reaction:
I like this story because it encourages children to not give up. I remember being so frustrated with tying shoes. I would tuck my laces inside my shoe just so I wouldn't have to go through the hassle. This book includes pictures for each step to tying shoes. It is a good read for young readers.
Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. In the classroom, you can take the lace boards and have children practice looping the strings through the holes.
2. You can even have the children practice tying their own shoes or help another child tie theirs. ( )
