This is my absolute favourite of Geoffrey Trease's novels that I read as a child. It has stuck in my mind for 30 years and rereading it was an absolute pleasure. Recommended completely. ( ) This story's stage is Athens in greece ages ago. A boy whose name is Alexis wrote a play and dreamed that it was played at festival of play. One day,he happen to know a men's dangerous plan. So he and Corinna who is a girl tried to detect the plan, and experienced many dangerous adventures. I was surprised when I knew the situation of women in Athens. And I was excited Alexis and Corinna's adventures. They have very strong heart! This story is set in Athens in the 5th century BC. Some people will put dangerous plan into practice but two children noticed the plan and try to stop it... It was interesting because some famous historical figures are appearing in this book.I could learn some ancient history. However,I thought this book is a bit complicated because there are many characters in it. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

All over Athens the cocks were crowing, the sky was turning from dark-blue to oyster-grey, and the city was waking to one of its great events, the annual festival in the vast open-air theatre. Alexis, son of Leon, was full of anticipation as he dreamed of having his own plays performed there one day. But he was to be involved in more than playwriting before the day was over, for among the spectators at the horse race, by the light of the flaming torches, he heard Hippias, the arrogant dandy, and a stranger with a beaked nose and over-high cheekbones, plotting to overthrow the democracy of Athens. For the rest of the year, two things possessed Alexis: his comedy The Gadfly, and the plans he laid with his friend Corinna to trap the conspirators and save his beloved city. His exultation and anxiety grew together as the fateful Theatre Festival arrived once more. Geoffrey Trease has combined a fast-moving dramatic story with a vivid and accurate picture of a great historical period. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
