A collection of fifty stories about ordinary people triumphing over extraordinary circumstances. The stories these brave people tell are heart-stopping, yet they inspire us as they reveal the sustaining power of deep courage and faith.Have you ever wondered whether your faith and courage would sustain you in the midst of a terrible crisis? The fifty people in this book came face-to-face with that question in ways that are hard to even imagine. Accidents, illness, the deaths of loved onesâ??these are the things that haunt us. The people in this book share their trials not for the sake of our entertainment, but to assure us that we need not worry. They have discovered that our lives are in the hands of God, and that he provides the grace to face whatever life hands us. Their stories will touch your heart and lift your spirits.… (más)

Miracles and Moments of Grace was a very enlightening book with stories from "moms". This is a book with several short memories of a mom and her child; the moments they embraced and held onto in knowledge they were this child's mom and the child loved them as much as they did them.
The stories were told and wrote in the mom's voices which made them all a bit different in how they were told. I had hoped for a bit more gut wrenching, heart tugging but it was a good read and wonderful for short moments of reading time we all look for in our normal lives.
I received this book from goodreads and do appreciate the ability to read it and add it to my library shelves. ( )

Unlike other reviewers, I was not at all surprised at the religious nature of this book. There were some stories that were just fair. But many of these stories moved me, or gave me chills. It is nice to see a more personal side of doctors. I read a lot of medical light books, and religious books, so this was right up my alley! Thank you for an inspiring book!

I got this book through Early Reviewers: my interest was in the medical aspects, not the application of a particular belief system. I do believe in a sort of miracles, or rather, I believe that all life is a miracle and all miracles are based on the laws of physics, biology, and the basic structure of the physical universe.

I had a lot of difficulty with many of the tales in this book, which seem to posit a world where good people, particularly good Christian people, have their wishes answered by a generous God, who does things for them that He wouldn't do for just anyone.

A few stories I found genuinely moving, particularly those written by people whose faith was not dependent on God providing miracles just for them. Others I found genuinely irritating: for example, the man who felt that God had turned aside charging elephants for him (while he was hunting those elephants, no less!)

If you are a certain type of Christian, this might confirm your beliefs; if you have a more open mind, or are not part of the Judeo-Christian tradition, you may want to look elsewhere for inspiration.

I received this book as a LT Early Reviewer and have to admit that I had mixed feelings about it. I guess I would have been less put off if I had been aware in advance that the book had a decidedly Christian theme. I was really looking forward to hearing the doctors' responses to the author's query: "What is the one moment that remains in your mind as the most memorable moment of your career?" I didn't expect that many of the respondents would be replying about experiences they had while doing missionary work. Somehow that blunted the effect of some of their stories for me. However, it's a quick read, and may be just the ticket for the right reader.

I had no idea when I requested this book that it was of such a religious nature. I love inspiring stories, but I think the reader should be left to draw their own conclusions about the nature of a miracle. I found the writing rather sparse and simplistic, but maybe that is just me... My heart sank once I got the drift of the religious overtones. Some stories were very interesting, and some a bit distasteful, the one about the dentist in particular. All in all, I think it would have been best to lighten up on the religious point of view.... When you find yourself in that chilly exam room gowned in that flimsy blue paper robe and balanced uneasily on that high exam table, have you ever wondered what is going on in the mind of the doctor perched on that low stool in front of you?

I wish I could say that I have had lofty thoughts of this nature. But, to be honest, I’m generally too wrapped up in worry about my own puny self to give my doctor the barest of thoughts. I want a diagnosis! I want a pill! I want to feel better and I want to feel better now. "The patient does not care about your science; what he wants to know is, can you cure him?" said Martin H. Fischer, a doctor and author of the mid-1900s. He’s sure got that right.

But after writing this book, all that has changed.
