Also, there seems to be the assumption that the child will work with lists in the book. Besides the problem with marking up the book, the font is too small for young readers, and many of these tables are split over two pages making copying them a problem. I also found that the vocabulary was sometimes more obscure than I would have thought suitable for 5-7 year olds. (I currently work with 6-10 year olds on reading in a school environment, and find that many of the children don't know the words they are expected to read.) All of this even if a list of 220 words that have to be read by sight isn't a bit daunting even for an adult who reads well... (
