However, be prepared to introduce the harsh facts of whaling and seafaring life to kids: Dad loses a leg to a whale, and Peggony-Po's triumph is, inevitably, the death of the whale. ( ) Peggony-Po is a tall tale set during the mid-nineteenth century whaling industry and highlights the adventures of a young boy, Peggony-Po, who was carved from a piece of driftwood which saved his sailor father's life. Peggony-Po decides to avenge the loss of his father's leg and is determined to catch and kill Cetus the monstrous seemingly indestructible whale. The illustrations are rich and beautiful. Through this tale, we learn that perseverance, hard work, and ingenuity can help us conquer impossible tasks. Peggony-Po is the story of a sailor boy who is anything but ordinary. He was carved from a piece of wood and magically came to life one night. After he came to life the crew noticed how quick, smart, and agile Peggony-Po was. His destiny is to capture the whale that injured his father and this story includes all the hijinks in between. Another great book by Brian Pinkney this one collaborating wit his wife Andrea Pinkney who is also a successful author. The illustration in this book are wonderful and the mix of colors is very unique. The book is constantly changing from bright colors with dark backgrounds to dark colors with bright backgrounds which helps display the mood for each page. I really enjoyed this read and will continue to search for other Pinkney books. Peggony-Po is a story about a wooden boy who goes after a whale that stole his father's leg. This is a tall tale takes readers on a journey around the sea and ends with the success of the boy. This could be paired with an informational text about whales. Children would enjoy this story more after gaining background knowledge. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
