Gorgeous illustrations add depth to a simple story about a mother elephant who must leave her baby for a short time. The writing is just on the wrong side of precious for my taste, but I have to admit it's a beautiful book. ( )

This is a sweet story about a mama elephant who must leaver her baby for a while to ask for rain since the land has dried up. She gives her baby things to think about so he can remember her and tells him to meet her where the moon meets the horizon. This book teaches that it's okay to be sad and miss someone when they leave, but they will come back. This book could go with a geography lesson about Africa's dry and rainy seasons. ( )

This book tells the story of a mother going on a journey to talk to the gods about the lack of water on their land. although little one was sad, the mother gave little one somethings to look for so that little one knows mother is with him. I think this was a good book for students that have parents away from them. I love that it has elephants at the characters because they play an important role in my life. Would suggest this to teachers and i would have it in my personal library as well. ( )

This is a touching story of a mother elephant having to leave her baby elephant alone for a week or so, to go "ask the sky for rain." During the time she is gone, she promises to be watching the same star as her baby and always thinking of him. It is an easy to understand and relatable book for small children. Myself and the children I read this to enjoyed this book. It is a very good way to explain how mothers may have to leave their babies for a short while (for work or what have you), but they always come back and think of their babies the entire time they are gone.
