Susan Roth's "Fire came to the earth people: a Dahomean Foltktale" is a story about how humans first encountered fire, by having animals stealing it from the gods above. Due to its complexity-a fair amount of characters, and action, this would be good for older students to explore. Would be a good discussion about whether humans should be able to create fire or not-the costs/benefits of knowing how. Also could be a discussion about the conflict between authority of the gods/animals. ( )
