There the case takes an abrupt turn from personal vice to grand-scale economic malfeasance with the news that Ruben's late father, Farley McLeod, had been involved in a quest for diamonds that pitted McLeod's unexpectedly numerous brood of survivors against environmental activists like Friends of the Tundra's Horace Tyne, with the DeBeers organization hovering barely offstage. Nor are the opportunities for forensic surprises at an end.Reichs (Flash and Bones, 2011, etc.) delivers solid, albeit grueling, post-mortem work, nonstop complications and enough action for a weekend at the bijou. I decided to read the Temperance Brennan books after watching the television show Bones. The two are similar but also very different, I enjoy both. Kathy Reichs has a very detailed but still interesting writing style. I do not understand all of the technical jargon but that does not detract from my reading enjoyment. Tempe and Ryan are great characters and my favorite parts of the books are when they are in a scene together especially if it is out in "the field". ( )

While seeking a woman who fled a hospital, Tempe Brennan and her once boyfriend Montreal detective Andrew Ryan find three dead babies in her apartment and a fourth in another Canadian city. Eventually, they follow her pimp to the wilds of Yellowknife (in the Northwest Territories), where a drug turf war is cloaking another nefarious scheme involving the fleeing woman. This one kept me guessing until the end. ( )
