If Katie Bonner's late husband hadn't invested all their savings in the craft fair Artisans Alley-which Katie is now responsible for keeping in the black-the Webster mansion could have been hers to remodel. For years she dreamed of renovating the old place on Victoria Square into a bed and breakfast. Now that dream belongs to another young couple. But their dream becomes a nightmare when a skeleton is discovered, sealed in one of the walls of the mansion. The bones belong to Heather Winston, who went missing twenty-two years ago. Her aunt is Rose Nash, a jewelry vendor at Artisans Alley, who is determined to find her niece's murderer, and asks for Katie's help to do it. The case may be cold, but the killer is very much alive-and ready to go to any lengths to keep past secrets buried...… (más)

I read this because it was in my pile.... I will not read the other two by the same author, they are going back into the Library return bag.

I really dislike stupid wishy-washy main characters. Are they suppose to be endearing? How do they escape being killed off by the bad-guy?

Main character, Katie, her husband died (no great loss) & the $$$ she had set aside to purchase the Victorian mansion across the street to be opened as a B&B (all the antique furniture she bought is in storage), he used to buy the money-losing craft mall across the street (without telling her) instead.

Katie goes in to visit the new owners of the mansion & they offer her the sledge hammer to remove a wall... inside the wall is the skeleton of a young woman who disappeared 20 years ago.

The current sheriff is the same one who took the missing report 20 years ago and blew it off, never following through, because he was (and still is) a lazy chump.

The girl's ex-boyfriend, now movie director comes to town & she questions him in front of the press, he is later killed by a sniper.

The ex-best friend of the girl, is also killed after meeting w/ Katie, before she tells Katie anything, she gets spooked & runs away.

Also: there is problems w/ a nasty seller in the antiques mall; Katie stupidly agrees to be a maid-of-honor for another vendor she barely knows and gets stuck w/ wedding favors & parties two weeks before the wedding; and she has lost her lease w/ 2 days to move and no prospects.

Whatever.... ( )

Couldn't wait to read the 2nd novel in the Victoria Square series by Lorraine Bartlett (one of the pen names of Lorna Barnett who also writes as L.L. Bartlett).

As delightful as anticipated. ( )

Katie Bonner has a full plate - not only does she manage the Artisan Alley, but she's been tapped by an acquaintance to step in as the Maid of Honor (the wedding is a week away) with all the accompanying duties (favors, shower, etc.) but she also has to move and she hasn't found a new apartment yet.

When making a courtesy call on new neighbors who bought an old mansion that Katie had wanted to buy and turn into a B&B, she is allowed to help with the renovations and a smack with a mallet on the wall reveals a skeleton within.

The ensuing escapades related to the apartment search, wedding preparations and interviews with suspects carry the reader on a bumpy ride that entertains thoroughly. ( )
