Elmo wants to play a game of checkers with Gina, but baby Marco needs to be fed and Gina leaves to go take care of him. Elmo is upset because he doesn’t get to spend as much time with Gina as he wants to and thinks that if he acts like a baby, too, he’ll win her back. Other members of Sesame Street talk and sing about being left out during play, feelings of jealousy, and showing emotions. This newer Sesame Street episode offers modern features like 3D-computer-imaging cartoons, fabric-collage animation, and brighter, clearer real-life digital footage. But don’t worry, Sesame Street producers haven’t wandered too far from what makes the program a timeless favorite – there’s still “letter of the Day”, fun real-world experiments (footage of children and their reactions while popping a balloon in this episode), and, of course, the purple two-headed monster acting out “emotion” words like happy, sad, angry and afraid. Unfortunately, this recent episode lacks the older shows’ interconnectivity, wherein everything in the show was related in one way or another to one theme. This episode feels a little choppy and tries to cover too much subject matter in a one hour time period. Recommended for ages 4-6. ( )
