Review: The book Welcome to Molly's World,1944: Growing Up in World War Two America is follows the story of a girl named Molly during the period of World War 2. There are two options of viewing this book, there is a chapter book with a storyline following Molly’s life or readers can review the picture book. For this assignment, I have decided to review the picture book. Throughout the book, the author uses pictures and descriptions to teach readers about the life of women and girls during this war while the men were away fighting. Although Molly is a fictional character, the author made sure to include realistic examples and experiences from this time period. After reviewing this book, I have decided to give it 4/5 stars. I have decided to give this book 4/5 stars because of how accurately the authors give details about WW11 and provides support for different types of learners. For example, the way students can review this book comes with different options like an audiobook, a large hard cover book and a smaller hardcover book. Also, this book is available on youtube. I only decided to give this book ⅘ stars because it is heavy with historical material and does not provide much insight into the character Molly, students would have to read the other chapter books to learn more about the character. This book is the non-fiction companion to the American Girl series about Molly. It gives historical and cultural information about the time period, including how World War II started and what the effects were for people in Europe and the United States. It mixes facts with personal accounts and real-life experiences. It covers a lot of different aspects of the war, including how children lived. It has 8 1/2 by 14 inch pages. Images are scattered across the left and right pages, creating a collage effect. Images include drawings, paintings, black and white photos, pictures of period objects, maps, diagrams, and historic posters. Each image depicts an important fact or experience for readers to learn about. While some chapters are about entertainment and fun on the homefront, other chapters show the negative side of the war. The variety of images and text will interest readers, but they may get more out of it by reading with an adult.

Provides an in-depth look at life and historical events in America during World War Two

A very good, beginner's look into World War II. It covers a great deal about different aspects of the war (The main theaters, volunteers, Red Cross, soldiers, women soldiers, day-to-day life, popular pastimes, etc.). It glosses over the causes of the war (would half a page on WWI really have been that hard?). The lay-out is nice, alternating between block paragraphs and pictures with "eye-spy" style captions (think: DK eyewitness series). Also...thank you, thank you, thank you for putting the correct picture to "Rosie the Riveter"! Everyone always gets Rosie confused with "We Can Do It." ( )

This book talks about through descriptions and photographs, all aspects of growing up in the early to mid nineteen forties. In addition to giving a picture of what life was like, it talks about the war, and focuses on the many ways that women and children participated and helped out- from growing victory gardens to serving in the women's division of the armed forces. ( )
