I have been a language arts teacher for over 10 years, and I found this book to be very helpful with new innovative ideas. Differentiation within instruction has been around for awhile and seems to meet with varying acceptance. I think all teachers probably currently differentiate whether they realize it or not. This book will allow you to identify current techniques and enhance and develop new techniques. This year I will be entering a role as a coach to other teachers and I look forward to being able to pass along some of the information and techniques gleamed from this book to them. ( )

I found this a really useful book for reference purposes. Although geared towards an American education system I found I could adapt the resources suitable for teaching at Ks3 and Ks4 in the English classroom. The tic-tac-toe idea has been one I've implemented already. An excellent resource. ( )

Working with teachers is the largest part of the work I do. When I received this book from Library Thing, I was seeking specific strategies to help teachers meet the needs of all learners in their classrooms. While it didn't dissappoint, I found myself wanting more than what the book is able to offer. Nonetheless teachers can find strategies here that they will not find elsewhere. ( )

Differentiation That Really Works
By Cheryll M. Adams and Rebecca Pierce

Having taught language arts from the 6-8 grades, I picked up Differentiation That Really Works with the hope of finding something new and useful. The term differentiation had appeared on the scene several years ago and I had found the workshops and websites of little help in the urban middle school setting. The problem was and is classroom size. Having been to some extent an enrichment teacher for the advanced student for most of my teaching tenure, I was well prepared to provide for the advanced student in the classroom. The problem lay in the regular classroom which often reaches inordinate size. The size often prevents adequate use of many activities with which I have had success.

Several ideas in the book I found useful for all of my classes. Choice boards in particular were useful in a multiplicity of literary activities. The graphic examples in Chapter 5 were a useful addition to my own graphics. I expected little when I acquired your book. I gained a lot. Thank you.

I found this book immediately useful. I have seen several of the strategies before but never so well presented and explained for a teacher to use. ( )
