Fiction. Literature. Romance. HTML:

New York Times bestselling author Mariah Stewart presents a captivating contemporary romance novel in the tradition of Robyn Carr, Susan Mallery, and Barbara Freethy.

Some of Lucy Sinclair's best days were those spent growing up in small town St. Dennis--working at the family inn and enjoying summers filled with swimming, sailing, tennis, and the company of Clay Madison, her best friend. But Lucy's darkest day, the one that shattered her innocence with violence and fear, also happened in St. Dennis. And the town she once loved became the place she gladly left behind--along with the terrible secret she's kept for twenty years.

While Lucy headed off for college and a career, Clay remained--more than satisfied with the life St. Dennis had to offer. But now, even after inheriting his family's thriving farm and starting up an organic brewery, he can't help feeling that something's missing. And when Lucy comes back to town to plan a celebrity wedding at the Sinclair family inn, she and Clay reconnect, and find themselves reevaluating their long-sleeping friendship that could blossom into something deeper. Like a bookend to those distant childhood days, this summer will be Lucy's chance to finally confront her hidden pain, make peace with the past, and plan her own whole new future.

BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Mariah Stewart's Long Way Home.

#5 Chesapeake Diaries - I have read all the others in the series so was looking forward to hearing more about Lucy's past and her high school days. Some of Lucy Sinclair’s best days were those spent growing up in small town St. Dennis—working at the family inn and enjoying summers filled with swimming, sailing, tennis, and the company of Clay Madison, her best friend. But Lucy’s darkest day, the one that shattered her innocence with violence and fear, also happened in St. Dennis. And the town she once loved became the place she gladly left behind—along with the terrible secret she’s kept for twenty years. A good series and nice read. (love Grace and her diaries)!

Looking forward to the new The Long Way Home, the next in the Chesapeake Diaries Series coming out the end of Jan, 2013. ( )

I enjoyed this book very much. I will look for more of her books in the future. Great story line, well developed love able characters and a town I would love to live in. ( )

Again, Mariah Stewart captures the beauty of the small towns, of the peacefulness and love that one can only encounter at home. The first love, the second changes, the sense of gathering and help, of being part of something, is well represented in here. St. Dennis and its people is the place here you want to be when you are feeling low, eating an ice cream at Scoop or a Cupcake with Brooke. ( )

I received this book as a LT Early Reviewers copy. Usually I don't pick up books that are part of a series. I feel like I have to read all the books before or after a certain title and I don't like the repetition of reading an entire series. However, this book was a little different. Like many books in a series, this one was set in a small town with many characters, who's back stories I hadn't read. Fortunately the author filled in the gaps enough that I could pick up on who was who. This was a light and enjoyable read with an interesting enough story.

It does deal with some tough topics, such as rape. But the author lovingly guided her characters through the difficult plot twists in a gentle and realistic way that didn't feel uncomfortable. I find this is important to note because I've come across some books who deal with this topic in a way that is not at all realistic or can be very painful to read.

All in all I think this was an enjoyable book with very lovable characters. I may have to pick up another one in the series just to check in and see how everyone is doing. ( )

As soon as Lucy was able to she left home and never looked back taking with her a secret she would rather keep locked away. Twenty years ago something happened that shook up Lucy’s safe little world and not wanting to ruin the lives of anyone she has kept it hidden. Although she never told she is always aware of what happened, carrying with her the secret and nightmares that go with it. In the process she makes excuses not to home back home to the small town and her families Inn. She also left behind her best friend Clay.

Now twenty years later she is back at the Inn complete with nightmares. Feelings start to flood back for both her and Clay. What is she to do with the secret and her feelings for Clay? Her successful career as an event planner brings her back home. If she wants any kind of a future with Clay she must face the past.

Ms. Stewart has a way of tackling difficult things in an easy manner that implies what happened, while being totally sensitive to the material. I really enjoyed this story of Clay and Lucy although at times I would have enjoyed more of their relationship then everything else that was happening all around them. I loved that she showed that no matter how much time goes between you and a friend that if that truly is your friend they tend to forgive showing that they cherish you a person.

As she delves into the world of relationships, memories, secrets and love we find that you can’t help but realize that the richness of small community has its advantages. The warmth of small town living makes you feel that no matter what happened in the past there is always a way to overcome the fear that causes the nightmares if you only trust your family and those that have always been there for you. Ms. Stewart makes you care and become a part of the community. Even though the story doesn’t have a lot of depth it is still a wonderful read as you become a part of it while getting caught up in the lives of those that live St. Dennis and are chronicles in the Chesapeake Diaries taking you to a place where people care.

I for one am looking forward to catching up with the others in St. Dennison the Chesapeake. I also look forward to many more to come.
