Lending This is a survey of samplers from across the country, and with such a variety to choose from, Edmonds has included some stunningly gorgeous pieces. My only complaint about the book is that I wish some of the reproductions were larger. In addition to information about the pieces themselves, Edmonds has attempted to locate information about the embroiderer, the school, and the teacher who designed the piece. Most of the pictures are in color. A good choice for a survey of American samplers. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
"American classrooms have gone largely unrecorded, these astonishing embroideries which are usually signed, dated, and even sometimes inscribed with the names of the towns in which they were worked and the names of the embroiderers' teachers serve as historic documents, attesting to the existence of colonial education for women. There is a story behind each of the nearly eighty samplers illustrated in this book"--Insleaves. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
