( ) Furst is great at choosing niche pieces of history and use them as his backdrop. Here, he uses Germany's info ops efforts in France in the late 1930s. Add a Hollywood movie star, with origins in Austria and acting in Paris, you have a potentially interesting plot. While still a good read, the book didn't exactly thrill, maybe because the protagonist's main role is that of a courier, not a spy. And of course, you have the love affair that seems a must in Furst's books. This book is classified as a spy thriller, and on that point this book disappoints, but as a piece of historical fiction I liked this book. Having read other novels in the Night Soldier's series this one didn't have much suspense, but it did have great descriptions of European cities and a feeling of impending conflict. The main character isn't all that interesting but the supporting cast and overall themes are and they make up for that deficiency. Furst's novels in general give his reader a great appreciation for the actions and feelings leading up to WWII that you don't read about in history books and this book does that well. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Autumn 1939. In Paris American motion picture producer Frederic Stahl is drawn into a clandestine world of foreign correspondents, exiled Spanish republicans, and spies of every sort. As a celebrity from neutral America -- who can travel across the continent freely -- Stahl could be very useful indeed. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
