Gorgeous, loved it. Read it via comixology. The color on iPad is something else. Stunning! ( )

Normally I’m pretty choosy about the graphic novels I read, and even those are few and far between. But when I stumbled across Storm Born, I was hooked. Storm Born started out as an urban fantasy novel by bestselling author Richelle Mead in 2008. Because of its enticing plot line and unique view of the paranormal world, it was made into an equally enticing graphic novel.

Storm Born Vol.1 stars Eugenie Markman a “shaman-for-hire” known to the supernatural world as Odiel. Her arsenal includes a gun, two athames and a wand which she uses to either kill or banish her enemies back into the Otherworld. After working a normal case, Eugenie’s world begins to take a drastic turn as members of the supernatural world learn her real name. Things only worsen when she is approached with the case of rescuing a missing girl from the Gentry, known to us as fairies.

Storm Born Vol. 2 begins exactly were Vol. 1 leaves off. After a world wind night with the perfect stranger, Eugenie’s night comes to a screeching halt when she is once again attacked by a creature from the Otherworld. In lieu of this, our heroine continues to consider the case of the missing girl and the puzzle continues to unravel from there.

Though the plot was incredible, the artwork in this particular story is what truly drew me in. The pictures do not have a “high end, hang me in a museum” feel to them that most books turned graphic novels have. While I am a fan of those, this work is detailed, yet grungy. It looked exactly like a comic book should.

Overall, Storm Born issues #1 and #2 are one action-packed kick-butt start to a great series. It starts with a bang, and ends with the same high-spirited momentum. There is magic, mystery and a lot of flare. So whether you have read the previous novels or not, you can still fall in love with the Dark Swan story and it’s interesting, yet lovable characters. Eugenie is a smart, sexy, tough-as-nails, intelligent heroine, and her story is one that fans of Richelle Mead should not want to miss! ( )

Originally posted at http://mycutebookshelf.blogspot.com/2011/07/review-storm-born-2-by-richelle-mead...*Warning* Storm Born is meant for older audiences as it includes sexual content & violence. This review is meant for the comic issue #2.Storm Born #2 starts right after the events of issue #1. An ice monster appeared at Kiyo’s hotel room and he jumped right away to fight the monster, leaving Eugenie surprised. The ice monster knew Eugenie’s name, as this was becoming a typical thing for her encounters. Eugenie ends up casting a spell to make the monster return to his realm, but she noticed how Kiyo knew what he was doing before that. They both ask each other what they are but Eugenie threatens Kiyo. If he won’t tell her what he is, she’ll cast him out to the underworld. He ends up escaping so Eugenie asks a friend to find information about him. Eugenie decides to take on the job for saving the girl that was kidnapped in the previous issue. She goes to her parent’s house to talk to her stepfather about it.This was a great continuation to the first issue. It started out action-packed and didn’t falter. There was more than one monster encounter and I enjoyed that. Kiyo is gone but he’s a mysterious character, so that makes me very interested in him. Especially now that I know he’s more than human. I cannot wait to know what he is. Eugenie is still as kick-ass as she was on the previous issue—she keeps battling monsters with ease. She is the type of character that I love, and I enjoy reading about her fights. The artwork is still great and I love it. I really liked how the ice monster & djinn were portrayed. The djinn was my favorite in terms of art because I thought she looked beautiful and magical. This issue was filled with magic & mystery again. There was an incantation at the end of the issue, so I can’t wait to see what happens after that. I wonder what Eugenie is up to next, and I also can’t wait to see more of Kiyo.Storm Born #2 is an awesome addition to the series, as we uncover more about the characters. There’s also a lot of action and the story is really fast-paced. This was a great issue and I can’t wait to read more about Eugenie. ( )

The Graphic Novel is still in progress, but the pages I've seen so far are amazing! Richelle Mead is very excited about this project and is very pleased with the artwork as well...

Eugenie Markham never asked for any of this. Until now, she's been content with her job as a freelance shaman, battling and banishing Otherworldly creatures. When a prophecy suddenly makes her the Otherworld's most popular bachelorette, Eugenie finds herself fighting off unwanted supernatural suitors, as well as the evils that begin emerging from her past...
