When I saw the title of this book and its contents I didn't hesitate to pick it up and purchase it. Why? Because Psalm 23 hold a special place in my heart. Aside from being my favorite psalm, this is one piece that has held me during the low and high tides of my life. This book certainly brought me to a deeper understanding of what the Psalm truly conveys. After reading this, my love and appreciation for Psalm has deepened. ( ) Simple but soulful. Kushner takes the 23rd Psalm line by line, parsing meanings, explaining context and dispensing gentle advice. The overall message is one of hope and faith -- that G-d won't magically make things better, but will give you the strength to survive and grow. Theologically speaking, it's not the deepest or most intricate analysis, but a welcome one in a world that is sometimes too dark and scary. Another wonderful book by Kushner. I read this for my church's book club, and we all loved it. I found his theology very interesting, and learned new insights into the 23rd Psalm that I had never thought of in the past. Kushner just makes you wish that he was your neighbor so you could hang out with him sometime. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

The Lord is my shepherd is a book of practical spirituality, inspiration and encouragement gleaned from what may be the best-known chapter in the Bible: the Twenty-third Psalm. "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." So begins the psalm that, for millennia, has been a source of comfort in grief and of courage in fear. In this book Harold Kushner discovers what it has to teach us about living our day-to-day lives. Each chapter discusses one line of the psalm in the context of both the time when it was written and the present day, and illuminates the life lessons contained within it. The author also draws on the ideas and thoughts of various spiritual figures--from G.K. Chesterton to Martin Buber to Paul Tillich--to further expand our understanding of this great psalm and help us benefit from its everyday spiritual wisdom.
