Comic and Graphic Books. Fiction. HTML:

Harry Dresden`s life is a mess. His top client (and close friend), Lt. Karrin Murphy, no longer trusts him. Chicago`s underworld and the cops alike think he's mobster Johnny Marcone's supernatural enforcer. And the enigmatic White Council continues to view him with suspicion. If all that weren't enough, a pack of werewolves have unleashed a wave of terror on the Windy City. But as is always the case when it comes to the creatures of the Nevernever, there's far more going on than meets the eye. Before it's all over, Harry will find himself caught between friends, enemies, and arcane forces bent on his destruction. Is it any wonder he can't find a date?

Usually I'm not a big fan of books being converted into movies or comics. This is one of the reasons why. Mostly this comic book was word for word to it's counter part. If it couldn't word it properly, it made up with it with the illustrations. Compared to the first comics these weren't done nearly as well. ( )

This trade paperback covered the first four issues of the Fool Moon graphic novel Dresden Files story arc. The writing was well done, but the illustration wasn’t as good as in previous installments.

In this installment Harry ends up investigating a series of murders that appear to be caused by werewolves. He is still on the outs with Murphy and can’t seem to get a date with Susan that doesn’t involve her pumping him for news stories. On top of everything else it looks like Johnny Marcone, Chicago’s top gangster, might somehow be involved.

This was a well done installment in the graphic novel version of the Dresden Files. I think the story was good and that they did a decent job of converting it to a graphic novel. The humor is still there, as are the action scenes.

However the artwork in this installment is nearly as good as it was in Storm Front. Harry is depicted as freakishly tall in some scenes and Murphy’s face seems to be stuck in a permanent scowl. The scenes where Harry does magical attacks weren’t nearly as...well...magical as they were in the previous trade paperback.

This is decent, it’s just not as spectacular as the first couple trade paperbacks. If you are a fan of the series I think you will still enjoy it.

Overall a decent addition to the series, but the artwork was lacking a bit. Hopefully they will change to a new illustrator for the next installment in this series. Recommended to those who enjoy the Dresden Files and urban fantasy graphic novels. ( )

If you followed any of the Dresden Files formats from the books to the tv show, then the graphic novels are a perfect addition. I love these books. The only complaint I have is they are not long enough. This particular volume is equal to four issues.
Fool Moon starts with a series of deaths that occur during the full moon. Dresden suspects a werewolf but he doesn’t know that much about them. The killer might be a werewolf but Dresden’s going to discover that there are many types and he has no idea how many are in Chicago.
I love the humor and the realism Jim Butcher tosses into his fantasy/mystery stories. I so wish the tv show had lasted because I just love the character. Time to dig into more of the books but do I really have time for another series. ( )

I've always thought that Jim Butcher's Dresden Files have all the qualities to make great graphic novels, quirky, slightly over-the-top and often reluctant hero, snappy dialogue and lots of action. I'm not sure that, here, it worked as well as I expected. Oh, the elements are - you can't beat Harry Dresden, Chicago's only wizard-for-hire as a quirky, over the-the-top hero, the dialogue is the snappiest (and, in this, I think it actually outshines the novel), and the action is none-stop exciting.

No, where it falls short is in the art. Whether by design or accident, it just doesn't seem to work as well as it could. In the novels, Harry is tall but, in this graphic novel, he is freakishly so. There are other examples - characters looking slightly insane (and these are the heroes), hair changing colour from panel to panel, well, you get my drift. At times, these flaws can be overlooked, at others, they distract from the story - not a good thing. Oddly, the cover is brilliant so I'm not sure what happened here.

Anyway, The Dresden Files has to be the best urban fantasy series out there unless you are into the whole urban romance fantasy thing and, if you can overlook the artistic problems, this is still worth the read. ( )

This is a graphic novelization of the novel Fool Moon and should not be combined with that novel nor with any of the individual comic issues of the graphic novelization.
