Working for governments, law enforcement agencies, multinational corporations and private clients, Ben is an expert K&R (Kidnap and Ransom) consultant, supplying professional kidnap-negotiation services. He can be called out to anywhere in the world within twenty-four-hour notice to set up and command the negotiator's cell, bargaining with religious fanatics, hardened criminals, and other desperate people in order to save the lives of their captives. Alongside a shadowy team of former spies and special operatives, his arsenal of psychological techniques is just as powerful as brute force. He'll spend as long as is necessary to get the job done. Ben Lopez is a psychologist and works as a hostage negotiator (the book says he's been doing this for 20 years but if you do the calculations from the dates he mentions it's more like 10). While he states at the back of the book that 'Ben Lopez' is a psuedonym and that he cannot be identified due to security reasons, he gives more than enough information so that one can ascertain his real identity.
I found this book easy to read but badly written, finding that Lopez comes off as pretentious and at times arrogant. The style of writing detracts from the topic and makes what are probably interesting experiences come off as pretentious. ( )
