Trotz der verschiedenen Autorinnen und Autoren, die hier zusammengekommen sind, handelt es sich um ein ausgezeichnetes Werk. Kunst und Architektur von der Antike bis zur Malerei der Gegenwart, das ist der weite Bogen, der sich hier spannt und einen Einblick in die ehrfurchtsgebietende Fülle an Kostbarkeiten Wiens bietet. Doch nicht nur die Beschreibung der Gebäude und Kunstwerke vermag zu interessieren, auch die Schilderungen des jeweiligen historischen Kontexts trägt zur Qualität der Darstellung in hohem Maße bei. Und wie bei weitgehend allen Bänden dieses Verlages ist die Ausstattung mit Bildern hervorragend. ( )
