A Third Doctor, Jo and Unit novel. In Dartmoor, a punk band get into a fight with a group of rich and rowdy young students, whose Range Rover crashes into their car. The groups are spurred on to insane acts of violence by a mysterious force, and the punk band singer hears a voice in his head which directs him towards a rusty knife buried in the ground. Murder ensues and blood soaks into the rock. It is much later on that a creature emerges from the bloody rock, greedily anticipating the chaos that it plans to cause... The Tardis alerls the Doctor to an incongruous energy fluctuation in the southwest of England. There, he finds himself part of the audience of one of the band's gigs, and their anarchic music is attracting an ever-growing convoy of violent disciples. What is the dormant force that has been awakened, and what are its destructive aims? How many more people must suffer a brutal death before the Doctor can halt the bloody trail of the convoy?… (más)

Quite possibly the worst Doctor Who book I have ever read. ( )

This is a Third Doctor novel with some fairly gritty horror elements. It wasn't at all to my taste; the same author has also done a pretty violent Second Doctor novel, Combat Rock, where I felt it was just about justifiable given the colonial situation on which it was based. Here however I felt there was no such excuse; it's a story of a rock band taken over by an alien entity and spreading Evil around 1970s Britain (where, in a dystopian alternate universe, they have started showing Blankety Blank several years before it affected our time line), attempts at pastiche flopping miserably in several places and simply gratuitous. One of the rather few Who books I really wouldn't recommend to anyone. ( )

In south-west England, a ragged band is gathering crowds of followers who seem hypnotised by the songs calling for violence and disorder. The Doctor detects strange energy focused in certain places, Jo and Captain Yates go undercover, one more effectively than the other. ( )
