This publisher of a series of graphic novel adaptations of world literature is, somewhat unexpectedly, in India. According to their mission statement their aim is "to enteratin and educate young minds by creating unique illustrated books to recount stories of human values, to arouse curiosity in the world around us, and to inspire by tales of great deeds of unforgettable people." This Don Quixote meets those goals very well indeed. The summarised story includes most of the universally known episodes such as the fight with the windmills or the challenge to the open cage of lions. For readers familiar with the original there are, however, some incongrous details: Sancho Panza's donkey is given the name "Dapple" and the background landscape that is featured in the panels is completely removed from the original setting. Nevertheless, these are minor qualms. The idiosyncratic Don Quixote, his view of honour, dignity and humanity, come through clearly in the text adapted by Lloyd S. Wagner and the drawings of Richard Kohlrus. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Don Quixote. The name is universally known for the idealistic, possibly insane, wannabe knight as much as a masterpiece of literature. Don Quixote, the book, is widely regarded as the first modern novel while Don Quixote, the character, is among the most recognizable and beloved ever created. The author, Miguel de Cervantes, once said of Don Quixote that he was created 'that children may handle him, youths may read him, men may understand him and old men may celebrate him.' Indeed, the misadventures of Quixote and his faithful squire, Sancho Panza, are comical and entertaining to readers of all ages. At the same time, they speak deeply of man's place in the world and his aspirations. This Campfire graphic novel adaptation is the ideal introduction to a story that readers will return to again and again throughout their lifetime. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
