Using Biblical and other written sources like the Torah, Edersheim provides a summary of various aspects of life in Israel around the time of Christ. It covers education, the roles of men and women, trade and employment, the Pharisees, the Sadducees and more, all in the context of a people waiting for the Messiah. This was written over 100 years ago, and so the language is a bit dated - lots of long sentences. ( )
