Excellent book for those planning to visit to India or Pakistan, on the Moghul history of the countries. Brief accounts of famous rulers and individuals, the book has many top notch photographs of the area and the history of this group. The section on Jahangir is about fifty pages, and starts with an account of his observations of the mating habits of a pair of cranes. Although he is a lesser known Moghul, the authors treat him with respect and an interesting interpretation of his diaries. Recommended for collections on India and Pakistan, as well as for politics and history of this apart of the world. Also for book collections of art, architecture and gems. There have been many books written about the flamboyant rulers of Mughal India but this one is indeed mercifully brief as the author promises. A well researched and most readable historical biography book NOT bogged down with too many details. Bamber Gascoigne maintains a flowing account, in chronological order of the greatest Mughals including some intriguing facts of their jewels. Any new reader will understand after reading this book why the Mughals still fascinate history buffs. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Bamber Gascoigne's classic book tells of the most fascinating period of Indian history, the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, when the country was ruled by the extraordinarily talented dynasty of emperors known to European travellers as 'the Great Moghuls', for their almost limitless power and incomparable wealth. Here is a unique picture of the way of life of India's most flamboyant rulers - their sublime palaces, their passions, art, science and religion, and their sophisticated system of administration that stabilized the greater part of India and was later adopted by the British. Acclaimed by travellers and scholars alike, and beautifully illustrated in colour, this is a book for anyone with an interest in India's glorious past and achievements.
