This book was fun for this age group- it expanded out to include size words like itty-bitty, teeny-weeny, huge, enormous, and colossal. There were fun fold=out pictures that showed how you could add up all the smaller scale sizes to equal one of the bigger scale sizes! We loved learning all these words and using them to arrange the stuffies we brought for our special "seasonal math" Fridays! ( ) Trying to explain concepts such as relative sizes to a young child may prove to be more difficult than you imagine. Enter “Small Medium Large”. Using simple words with definitive illustrations, Jenkins and Bogacki have succeeded in portraying the concept of size in an enjoyable way. As the characters in the book go from small to colossal, so does the text. When we go backwards from small to itty-bitty, the characters and text gets progressively smaller. Each delineation of size is shown with words, size of animals and in a line to show the differences. My favorite part of this story is poor size medium. She is left behind the pages as we continue to add animals on top of each other to see how many of one size make another size. For example, two smalls make a large. How many animals, and what sizes, make a colossal? The only way to find out is by ending the book with flaps that open to a 4 page vertical spread and it is fun to see when medium finally gets her chance to join in the fun. This read aloud book is great for students and young children who need help differentiating between sizes of things and could be used as a learning tool in the lower-elementary classroom. Bright, almost-primary colors and a plethora of differently-sized mice immediately grab the reader's attention in this concept book for young readers. While the book is visually appealing and the humor is just-right for preschoolers, the text -- which defines some mice as small, medium, large, gigantic, etc., -- accidentally implies that some "huge" adjectives are mathematically larger or smaller than other, which isn't actually the case. It's a shame, because the rest of the book is such a pleasure. (98) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
