Will he secure his future by ruining hers, or will she ruin his plans by securing him? A new twist on the old fortune-hunter plot puts an impoverished earl in a position to gain his fortune only by ruining an innocent's reputation without offering marriage. The innocent he's selected, however, has no plans to settle for anything less than marriage and will go to almost any length to secure him. With no other means for an income, the impoverished Andrew Black, earl of Townson, makes an agreement that will put a definite end to his eight-year poverty streak. But in order to gain his fortune, he must do only one simple thing: ruin an innocent young lady's reputation enough to make her flee to America. Brooke Banks isn't interested in marriage, or so she thinks. She came to London to have a good time, and that's exactly what she's doing. Widely known for her tendency to flout the rules, she suspects nothing when a handsome stranger appears on her doorstep. Thirteen days, a handful of kisses, and one scandalous situation later, Andrew and Brooke will have to choose to stick to their original plans or decide if a life together is worth the risk.… (más)

I'm struggling to review this one. It wasn't great, but it wasn't aweful either.
The plot is paper-thin and yes, the historical background is rather flawed.
Looking at some of the other reviews, the copy I read went through some heavy editing, there were no misspellings or wrongly chosen words that stood out. (I have been reading this whilst having a fever, so I might missed some). ( )

Andrew is in financial trouble. His "friend" offers to return Andrew's estate to hem debt free, all he needs to do is ruin the reputation of a young American girl.
Brooke's family has come to England to visit family. She is a bit wild.
When Andrew meets her, he can't help but like her and enjoys her company.
How is he to ruin her and protect her at the same time.

As romantic novels go, this is pretty basic. There are very few surprises, but it is a sweet story. You even get the beginnings of another love story between Brooke's sister, Liberty and a young minister, Paul.

I would recommend this for a nice nighttime relaxing read. I may read book 2 of the series Liberty for Paul. ( )

Brooklyn and her equally improbably named sisters Liberty and Madison are Americans on the hunt for titled English husbands. "Brooke" annoys a powerful Duke, who blackmails a penniless earl into ruining Brooke's reputation. In the end, Brooke and the earl fall in love and get married. They're all idiots. The worst of them is Brooke's younger sister Liberty, who keeps yelling and beating people with random household objects for completely inconsequential things. It's not cute! ( )

This book was okay. The reason why I gave it an "OK" is because of that lack of fulfillment feeling. The characters could be more complex, the story line is THERE it just needed to be drawn out more. It was a pleasant read, just...I wanted more, especially at the end. The ending was SO bland. I mean you have an entire conversation that NEEDS to take place and you don't even do it? You don't have your couple talking? :( ( )

I will admit what caught my attention on amazon was the cover and the price: FREE! I quickly bought it and began reading it. I couldn't put it down and read it within a day. One of my favorite things about this book is that it isn't the typical girl loves guy, guy doesn't want to get married romance book. After reading it i couldn't resist buying books two and three and loved them even more than this one. ( )
