"Usagi Tsukino is a normal girl until she meets up with Luna, a talking cat, who tells her that she is Sailor Moon. As Sailor Moon, Usagi must fight evils and enforce justice, in the name of the Moon and the mysterious Moon Princess. She meets other girls destined to be Sailor Senshi (Sailor Scouts), and together, they fight the forces of evil"--Publisher's website.… (más)

There is a slight improvement in the storyline from the previous volume, so this volume gets a star more than the previous volume. Sailor Moon: Pretty Guardian, Volume 2. The story becomes a little more detailed, and we get a sense of the plot as well. It’s much more enjoyable now!

Although I love the art style, something still bothers me. There is literally a ZERO development for the side characters outside of Chiba Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask, Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon, and a glimpse of Queen Beryl’s past.

Usagi is the focus of this book, and the world obsesses so much about her it’s impossible to ignore her. If you are not an Usagi fan, you are most likely to be VERY disappointed. Is there any point to including them at all? I don’t get it.

There was Sailor Venus pretending to be a princess when she was not one. In the pre-canon Silver Millennium, Princess Serenity/Usagi killed herself after Prince Endymion is murdered. Usagi is sad and has no idea what to do. A cliffhanger ends this volume.

My memory recalls that Naoko Takeuchi wanted to kill the Sailor permanently, but her editors talked her out of it. Therefore, her motivations are much more tragic than her publishers’.

Nevertheless, I had a great time with this one, and I can’t wait to read the next volume.

This is a follow-on to my review of vol. 1 and as such will note only differences.

Story
This volume was much more focused on the main story line, moved along at a much better pace, and had much more complexity--both in plot and characters--than vol. 1. ( )

Here we go! This is the Sailor Moon I remember reading in single issue releases and in Tokyopop's original GN releases. So naturally, it's more of a re-read than a new read, albeit with Kodansha's brand new translation which does the story a lot of kindnesses, especially with Usagi and the references to name (no more Bunny Tsukino, thank goodness!). I love these chapters of Usagi's memories coming back and the Senshi going to the moon, as well as those involving Usagi and Mamoru's time-spanning romance. So much love! Further cements the fact that manga!Mamoru is better than anime!Mamoru. And of course, the art in here is gorgeous; Takeuchi really shines when given lots of pretty dresses and dramatic scenes to draw. I can't wait to read volume three, which if I'm estimating right will bring the Dark Kingdom arc to a close and start the second arc in the series. Also: the cover is BEAUTIFUL. I love these new covers so much! ( )

A continuation of the story. I just love these. It is so hard to put these books down...always just one more section and the next thing I know, I've read the whole book. Love it! ( )

Do not combine the original print with the shinsouban. The original print for Sailor Moon has 18 volumes and the reprints (shinsouban: 新装版) have the chapters regrouped to complete in 12 volumes. Volume 2 for the original print contains Acts 6-9, while Volume 2 for the shinsouban contains Acts 7-11.
