William Bennett helped me re-tune to the political spectrum in his book A Century Turns, which was published in 2010. Now that it is 2011 and Bennett gives room for my fears in the book The Fight For Our Lives. The Obama administration has exemplified what was wrong with the tenants exposed to me in my 1970’s elementary education, Free To Be You and Me, it allows the Bullies ample room to dictate the rules of the playground.

But instead of Bullies with large arms and Neanderthal Thoughts, we have a world being run by the terrorists, and our President and Leaders say, "Hey as long as you don't bother us too much, you are free to be the way you see best. Even when this may be a violent notion towards our people." As if we are asking, "Does it work for you."

The United States use to reign in the fight for freedom, now we have abandoned our post and let the Barbarous Destructive Theologians free reign to do as they see fit. This is not good, not good at all. A bully does not change because they are cuddled and loved. Bullies change when they know there are consequences to their actions. This book is a hopeful wake up call to the United States, hopeful in waking the United States up before it is too late. ( )

A clear detailed view on the veil that has fallen over America regarding who our real enemy is and how we are more unsafe than ever.

The Fight Of Our Lives gets right to the point with the Fort Hood incident that happened Nov of 2009, the second worst terrorist attack in 8 years. An important point is made of this incident and how America should have been moved by that day of terror or at least given a wake-up call. This a truth many in our government don't like to talk about, which proves we are un-safe anywhere from Islamic terror, whether overseas or here in America. I learned many scary statistics especially about the year Obama was elected (2009), and how we had 12 terrorism related events in America that year alone, yet only 20 events between 9/11 (2001) and 2008. I found this book to be a real eye opener, with many important details explained by Bennett and Leibsohn that every American should read about.

The main point of The Fight Of Our Lives is how our government from the beginning has failed to name who we are in war against. This due to our government not wanting to single out the Muslim religion as the main reason for our fight on terrorism, instead our government has hidden behind a curtain of secrecy. The importance of allowing citizenry from the Muslim community seems to have over shadowed our need to protect the U.S. The main issues now on the agenda for the next election seem to be mostly job related and regarding the economy and deficits, another point in the book. I believe this is important however the scary thought is that terrorism has been placed on the back burner as if it has been completely eradicated. Especially now that Osama Bin Laden has been killed. I also believe us citizens who care about America need to wake-up and take a hard look at who our neighbors are. Yes, we have created an atmosphere that America is a free country and anyone has the right to practice their own beliefs and religion, but how far should we let this go. Allowing the building of a Mosque within two blocks of 9/11, should not be OK. Wake up America! We will never have another Ellis Island where our immigrants come into this country for peace and the dream of a better life. We need to be diligent if we care about our country because our government cannot be everywhere, also because they fail to name our true enemy. Times have changed and we need to take responsibility to keep the U.S. safe, even if this means allowing ourselves to give up some of our freedom and rights to our government so we can be protected. From the book cover

In The Fight Of Our Lives, William J. Bennett and Seth Leibsohn examine the devolution of American's post-9/11 tenacity and how this country's well-meaning culture or religious tolerance, coupled with soft anf apologetic leadership, has placed us squarely in the pocket of radical Islamists who have made clear their intention to obliterate everything we value.

My thoughts - For me this book was not an easy read! I am by no means up to date on politics and to be honest never have been so I found a lot of it I had to google just to understand the references and context. There is a fair of the book I found interesting and was amazed at how strongly these two feel in regards to the President(and his views/promises pre election) and the attitudes of the American people towards terrorists and how terminology is carefully applied whereas the authors want to call it as they see it (terror = terrorist).

This for me is a controvertial book as I feel it will definately upset some people whilst others will no doubt agree with the authors. I would recommend it to others as it is certainly a subject worth reading/debating about. (3 of 5 rating on here as I found it ok, ok rating is a 2 on other sites).

I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. ( )

Since September 11, 2001 America has been involved in an international war on terrorism. Bennett and Leibsohn ask the question whether we are fighting to win the war, or practicing to surrender. Thought provoking, this is an interesting book for anyone interested in current events and the war or terror. Although a bit repetitive at times, it is well written and engaging. Overall, I would rate this book a 4 out of 5. ( )
