Following Joe Jackson's legendary baseball career, this book goes through his history and the struggles he had finding the bat for his career. Starting from the bottom, Joe Jackson goes from the little leagues, to the big leagues, and back and forth again. In the end, he finds the perfect bat to continue playing baseball as a legend. I would use this book in an elementary school classroom to instill perseverance, trust, and a fun read about baseball. I personally really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend to others because of the text and the vivid illustrations. ( )

This was a fairly good book, but a little long for a read aloud. It’s a biography about Shoeless Joe Jackson who was famous for playing an entire baseball game in his socks. This book goes through a little of his life and how he got his bat whom he calls ‘Black Betsy.’ ( )

I actually got bored reading this book since I'm not interested in sports but I think boys would really enjoy this book. Its a biography about Shoeless Joe and his rise in baseball. I would have this in my classroom because I feel like a lot of boys could benefit from it. ( )
