Review: Graveyard Games by Sheri Leigh.

The story started out good with some descriptive character building to appeal to the readers and draw them into a story of mystery, suspense, and a different kind of sci-fi twist at the end. I did enjoy the story but some of it became predictable as I turned the pages.

The setting was a small town, a homecoming for a twin sister and brother after being away creating a career for themselves in different location from each other. Nick came home after being fired from a law firm and Rusty came home after being suspended, later fired, from a police department. Consequently, around the age of thirty, they returned home nearly at the same time. Unfortunately, step-mother was not happy about the homecomings but dad stood with open arms.

Many of their friends were still living in this small town so they were able to reunite and party until someone or something unexplainable was mutilating bodies around the town’s cemetery. Nick’s friends had a special place in the woods that was like an old hang-out they created when they were younger so Nick and his friends began their reminiscing where they left off.

Rusty was shunned and never accepted in Nick’s crowd from the age of twelve. She never knew why but blamed it all on Nick’s best friend Shane. Coming home years later she still retaliated revenge towards Shane….or she thought…until her brother was slain and mutilated by an unknown creature, monster, or was it human….

Then the unthinkable happened, Rusty started her own investigation and yes, the reader is starting to catch on to the horrifying events that conclude the story.

The book is a horror/mystery cross which follows Dusty, an ex-Chicago PD detective, as she investigates the death of her brother. I personalty found it a bit too horror like for my personal tastes, but then it is clearly listed as a horror book on Amazon though the plot follows a more predictable mystery route for the main, the ending however is very horror typical and that put me off. Although it has a quite slow start which makes it tough to get into, it then picks up and I enjoyed the read. For those of you who like to avoid romance like the plague, then you might want to skip this one as there is a romance plot involved.

Overall, a enjoyable free read but predictable and genre-confused. ( )

Silly ending with cliched writing although it was short ( )

It was a little different ending I did not see comming that way. Dusty was suspended from being a cop with pay. Returned home town to bury her twin. while thier she wants to find what really happened to her brother. She believes Shane her brothers best friend was with him that night and knows what happened. thier has now been a few other murders that they are blaming on a bobcat. It is a moving piece and written really well. kept my attention till the end. ( )
