The duck knows the answers to everything. This is because the duck just makes up answers, and despite often saying the most ridiculous things, the other animals believe her. Even when called out on her lying by her sister, the duck really doesn't care - she's happy and the other animals are happy, so who cares if she is telling untruths? The duck learns that telling lies is not always a good idea when the fox comes to eat her, but the moralising is not too heavy in this book. ( )

The Puzzle Duck was the oldest and wisest animal in the country so everyone came from all over to ask her questions. A confused frog asks where the sun goes every night; she tells him into a big box on the other side of the hill. A wet bird asks why rain falls out of the sky; she tells him the clouds have holes in the them. When questioned about how she could answer all these questions, she answers that the secret is to believe the answers and to tell things that will make people happy -- and she refuses to think of it as lying. One day a fox comes by and challenges her to answer the question, "Why can't I eat you?" First she says because he can't swim, but he can. Then she says she's old and would be tough to chew, but he points out his sharp teeth. Finally, she comes up with the ultimate answer -- because she can fly -- which is what she does. (and the final picture shows the fox family having to eat carrots....) ( )
