"A younger brother describes all the fun he has with the big sister he loves so much just because. He is enthusiastic about just how loving and special she is, and delights in telling us about all the fun things they do together. Only as his tale unfolds does the reader begin to realize that his sister has special needs and by then the reader just accepts, as he does, all the wonderful things about her. Teachers and librarians will appreciate this book for its sincere and convincing treatment of children with special needs, while parents will use this book to encourage sibling friendship and to read with children who are beginning to ask why a particular child they know is "different"--Publishers description.… (más)

This book is about a child who is disabled and cannot communicate with her sister in a traditional way. This book follows how her sister learns to communicate with her and how Toby's sister sees the world.

A little boy talks about all the ways he loves his big sister, Clemmie, who can't do much. He thinks the world of her, and they both go on great imaginative adventures together. She is special to him, and he does not see her disabilities.

I gave this book only three stars because although I like the message of love and adoration, the little boy paints a rosy picture of Clemmie. This story is just okay to me. I would have liked to have read about the little boy helping his sister or what she has to do every day that may be different from what the rest of do on a daily basis. ( )

This story is about a little boy who has a sister who is in a wheelchair. He talks to the reader about how much he enjoys spending time with his sister and how much fun they have together. He accepts his sister with open arms and unconditional love. He does not see his sister Clemmie with her disability; he sees her as his friend and loved one.
This is a sweet story told through the eyes of a child's love for his sister. I think this book should be on everyone's bookshelf because children can see that everyone is unique and different in their own way, but if they are your friend or family, you love them for who they are, not what they look like or how fast they can run or if they can run at all.
I would read this to my classroom to create a welcoming and loving classroom atmosphere that accepts everyone and also to help my students understand that we are unique and different in our own ways. I think all of the books on disabilities help to create an understanding and also educate young readers that people are different, and that's ok. ( )

I like this book..." just because." It is a sweet story of a little boy and his sister. His sister uses a wheelchair. What is great about this book is that it is a story that describes the relationship between siblings. It is not about the disability. However, the disability brings them close and opens their imagination. In Clemmie's chair, they take off to the moon! Clemmie is the big sister. This book was read by Jacqueline Wilson. It is nicely illustrated. ( )

Endearing story of a brother who adores his older sister, who can’t walk or talk. Accurate portrayal of a child with special needs who is accepted and celebrated for her gifts. This book will help general education students appreciate those with differing abilities for who they are. Students with special needs will appreciate seeing a character to whom they can relate.
