The story of the founding of Rome down to the choosing of Numa as the second king, told successively by a Latin, a Sabine, an Etruscan, and a Greek. It kept fairly close to the legendary account but I didn't find it very engaging ( ) Wow! I don't know what the historians, ancient (eg Livy) or modern, tell us about the founding of Rome. I can't tell how well this retelling fits with the myths or the facts. But the way Duggan manages to bring the story alive, the times, the customs, the warfare, the mindsets, is just amazing. Including his down to earth explanations of mythical elements. And I really appreciate having discovered, through this book, parallels between Romulus and a certain other "historic" figure. Highly recommended! sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
