This book made me cry. I really enjoyed this one after I stopped crying. ( )

Elisa was raped and assault and witnessed her love being murdered, she is in the care of damaged fledglings and is sent to Malachi to determine if they can be saved. She was also sent to see if she and Malachi could save each other. A unique pairing, filled with emotion, I even cried. Loved their story. While listed as seventh in the series I think this would fit better if read after Beloved Vampire

I have loved all the books in this series even though they can be very emotionally draining. I think this is more emotional than any of the others. The reader isn't just dealing with the emotional ups and downs of the main characters but there is the added element of the six vampire fledglings from Vampire’s Claim. So we pick with this book as the fledglings are being transferred to a big cat rescue to see if there is any hope of getting them into vampire society. The big cat rescue is run by a vampire named Malachi. Malachi is a native American, Cherokee, which was a child during the forced march that became known as the “Trail of Tears”. He is 120 years old and has found his place among the big cats that he tries to rehabilitate. If for no other reason I would have loved Malachi for his efforts to save my favorite cats, lions, tigers, leopards, and cougars. His being a vampire in this universe and so very dominant makes him that much more appealing. While we get enough of his history to know that he is an individual that has suffered his share of hardship and misery. I also fell in love with the way he treated Elisa. He tries so hard to stay apart from her. But her personality and submissive nature are more than his vampire instincts can resist.

Elisa is a simple girl that has grown up serving the needs of other people. She is an orphan and when Lady Daniel's mother finds her and takes her in her household Elisa finally finds a home. Elisa is a lovable young woman that draws all those close to her with her sunny disposition and practical attitude. Elisa has also survived so much before this story even begins. She has had to start over and over throughout her life. She thought that she could finally settle down and make a permanent life for herself. But the attack at the end of Vampire’s Claim puts an end to the dream and she has to start over again. I love that she is tough enough stand up to Malachi when it is something that she believes in. She fights for the fledglings over and over and finally makes Malachi see what is really going on with them. She tries so hard for all of them to survive but there isn't anything that can be done of the oldest two. It takes a part of her soul with each death. I was so glad that Malachi could bring her back and want to live again.

As always Ms. Hill has written a deeply emotional story that will have you crying in stops and especially the last chapter. There is so much going on in this book you just keep reading hoping to find the answers that you know have to be there. This isn't book that you are going to want to put down willingly. You are probably going to be up late or call in sick so you can find out what is going to happen next. I will also point out that this is a more hardcore Domination and submission story than other authors might write. There is a menage scene, nudity during the dinner scene, and some toys. However for those that have read the previous books this story isn't any harsher than the first few stories. I think that Joey W. Hill is one of the most under appreciated and under recognized authors on the market today. Her characters feel real and loving; her scenes are so rich in detail that you can feel the wind on your face and the spray of the ocean on your face. I look forward to each and every book that she writes. ( )
